At the time of booking, we will have a phone or email consultation, where you can express any desires you may have for the outcome of the shoot. I encourage clients to look through my portfolio for ideas and inspiration. Please book maternity sessions between 32 and 36 weeks. If you are booking a newborn session, I will clear a large window before and after your due date to ensure a session when baby is between 5-14 days old.
I am exclusively a natural light photographer and I shoot in the shade and two hours before sunset. Since I am an on-location photographer, your session can happen anywhere you like. The comfortable surroundings of your own home, a favorite park or a downtown area setting. I strive to make your session as relaxed as possible, allowing as much time as needed for little ones and families to be themselves and interact naturally with one another. I want to catch actual moments, so I may direct you, but try to never pose my clients too much. We can also take as many breaks as needed, for snacks or diaper changes. Newborn sessions are generally much longer than a regular session, typically lasting 2-3 hours, as I work around the baby, making sure he or she is comfortable, calm, fed and usually sleeping. I need the extra time so I can capture every detail about your new miracle...the little toes, the tiny lock of hair, the fluttering eyelashes.
When choosing what to wear to your session, I recommend wearing what is YOU but remember that these images will be hanging on your walls for years to come. If you need clothing suggestions, feel free to bring a few outfits and I can help you choose. For little girls, I like skirts over patterned tights, knitted hats, anything that shows her personality! For little boys, mix it up! A cool jacket, a funky scarf, shorts and a tie. Get creative, and have fun with it! Just try to avoid cartoons or logos. Remember, we want a classic look that will last through the years, and Dora doesn't say timeless! I prefer to photograph newborns without clothing or with just a simple diaper cover. I encourage families to bring along items of importance to the child, like a favorite stuffed animal or lovey blanket. I have some props as well to that I usually bring with that you are more than welcome to use for the shoot.
After your session, all images are carefully retouched and processed. Within 5-10 days of your session, you will receive an email with a link to your gallery showcasing your proofs. The gallery will be up for ten days for you to view at your leisure and share with friends and family before deciding on your order. Your order must be made during these ten days. After the ten days are up, your proof gallery will be removed, and if you wish to have it re-hosted, there is a $10 fee.
